Vpn Service

A VPN (virtual private network) is a secured network that is separated from the public wide area network (internet) so that users may transmit sensitive information that must be kept out of the public domain. A VPN service is used largely by police officers, the military and other organizations that must keep connected but cannot allow the public to gain access to the network. A VPN service uses custom, private routing systems to create a web that is separate from a public wide area network, allowing it's users to transmit information without worrying if it will be intercepted by unauthorized users in the public domain. Police officers use a VPN to link the computers in their cruisers to a virtual private network, allowing them to gain access to a database without compromising the security of the database because the VPN service is largely separated from public access.

The VPN may be widespread, being accessible from anywhere much like a cell phone, allowing police officers to access a database by connecting to different transmitters as they travel from location to location. Since the VPN service is a separate network from the wide area network that is used by the public and ISPs (internet service providers,) many users will trust in this security feature alone. However, if an organization cannot rely only on the security of using a VPN service, there may be further protective measures to be taken. The VPN may be set up to only allow access to users who are using a specific device. The VPN service may require a password, biometrics (such as fingerprint or retina scanners,) or will use cryptographic measures, which will scramble the information into something that cannot be read unless unscrambled. The military is a large user of a VPN service, sending information across the network that is not only on a virtual private network, but may also be scrambled and accessible by using a biometric system and providing a password while using a specific device. Unless a user can meet these requirements, the VPN service will remain hidden and inaccessible.

In today's world of questionable motives and prying eyes, securing information is a necessity, especially for those working in the military or police fields. There is information that must be kept out of the public domain and cannot be allowed to be accessed from just anywhere. While the public may use a wide area network to connect to each other, and may even use a secured LAN (local area network) because of their own need for security, there are those who cannot have any possible way for their information to be accessed. That is why a VPN service will create a hidden network, separated from the public wide area network and local area networks, and will even employ more security measures to ensure that any information being transmitted will be safe and secure. The VPN will be hidden from the public and from anyone who does not have the proper credentials, something that is a necessity in this day and age.
